This year, for the Hebrew holiday of Tu B'Av, the holiday of Love, I have decided to translate 30 of my favourite poems by my favourite poet, Hafiz, into Hebrew. I searched high and low for a Hebrew translation in bookstores, libraries, and universities, but none exist. And that is simply an unacceptable situation! Hafiz is pretty much the only non-hip hop poet that I have ever felt moved by. He wrote in ancient Persian over 600 years ago, and American Daniel Ladinsky has brilliantly translated hundreds of his poems into English. Big thanks to Uri Gordon for helping me a great deal with the translation into Hebrew. The last time I channeled a spiritual gift and posted it online for the enjoyment of all, but with the explicit request for it not to be commercialized, some selfish people downloaded my designs, printed them onto T-shirts, and sold them for profit! So, again, I ask: enjoy the poem for your own personal use, but do not publish them for sale! Thank you.
